MLK Day Celebration at St. Mary's
St. Mary’s Health Center will commemorate the birthday of well-known civil-rights leader Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 16, with its eighth annual event, “Embrace the Vision: Continue the Journey in Faith.”
The event will include a presentation by Nimrod “Rod” Chapel Jr., president of the Jefferson City branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The gathering also will feature music by the Lincoln University Vocal Ensemble, responsive litanies, a recitation of King’s “I Have a Dream Speech,” prayers and singing. A reception with refreshments will follow the ceremony.
The commemoration begins at 2 p.m. in the Assembly Hall at St. Mary’s Health Center, 100 St. Mary’s Medical Plaza in Jefferson City. No reservation is required. For more information, call (573) 761-7000, ext. 1504.
