St. Mary’s Health Center has become the first hospital in the area to use the latest technology in vascular imaging, the VeinViewer by Luminetx.
The VeinViewer projects the location of the patient’s veins directly on the surface of the skin, using near-infrared light, a digital video camera and an image processing unit, to provide a vascular road map in real time.
“This technology will enhance both patient and staff satisfaction,” said Cathy Abrams, St. Mary’s Chief Operating Officer/Chief Nursing Executive. “It’s wonderful that we have such a supportive Auxiliary that can help bring this technology to St. Mary’s and our community.”
The VeinViewer helps clinicians with procedures such as IV insertion and blood sampling, allowing them to accurately and quickly find veins regardless of age, body type or skin tone of patients.
This technology was purchased for the hospital by the St. Mary’s Auxiliary.
