A Safe Start On Life
The computerized monitoring system had alerted staff throughout the Obstetrics Unit that Kathleen needed additional assistance. The system enables staff anywhere on the unit to keep track of mothers in labor and respond as needed to help bring babies safely into the world.
In this case, the baby’s umbilical cord was trapped in a way that was threatening his supply of oxygen. Minutes were critical. The professionals went swiftly about their tasks, preparing for an emergency delivery, and before long, Kathleen was cradling a healthy baby in her arms. It was not an easy way to start a life, but “Sam” had the rest of it to look forward to.
Note- This is a true story, but the names have been changed.
